The Story Behind Stone & Sling — How God Gave Us Our Name
Some names are chosen. Other names feel like they choose you. That’s exactly how Stone & Sling was born — not from a branding manual, but from a moment God used to speak straight into our spirits.
We were watching House of David — a show already stirring our hearts with its message of faith, obedience, and standing firm in the face of spiritual giants. And in that same season, we were praying about a new name for our brand. Our old name, while meaningful, was often misunderstood and didn’t carry the clarity or mission we knew God was calling us into.
Then one night, we heard Arik Nelson’s song “Stone & Sling.” Instantly — we looked at each other and said, “That’s it.” The name hit so hard that we couldn’t shake it. We prayed about it. Sat with it. Tested it in our spirit. And the more we did, the more it became obvious:
This wasn’t just a name. It was a calling.
The Meaning Behind the Name
The story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 has always carried more weight than a childhood Bible lesson. David didn’t win because he was strong or experienced. He won because:
- He trusted God when no one else did
- He stepped out in faith when the battlefield looked impossible
- He used what God had already placed in his hands
“Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it…” (1 Samuel 17:49 NKJV)
